The central core gives this square an accuracy and stability not found in competitive tools.

Its core is a precisely machined square milled from cast and ground tool plate…the most stable aluminum in the world. The stability of the material and the methods used to machine the core allow it to hold the tolerance to ±.0085°… which is within one-thousandth of an inch at the far end of the 12”-blade. To this highly accurate core, Woodpeckers added cheeks to make the base thicker. The combination of the one-piece core with the precision-pinned cheeks can’t be matched by squares made with a blade riveted to a separate beam.

The cheeks are narrower than the core by a quarter-inch, forming a shoulder not found in traditional square designs. The shoulder allows the square to rest on the edge of a board without you holding on. Once you’ve used a Woodpeckers Square with the shoulder, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it.

The hands-free design, the wide stable base for vertical use along with its heft and balance combine to make the tool a joy to use, as well as deadly accurate. It has laser-engraved scales on both sides of the blade to an accuracy of ±.004" total accumulated error over the entire length of the scale.
